Role Summary

The Motor Technicians plays a critical role in disassembling, diagnosing, repairing, rewinding, and reassembling AC and DC electric motors. The ideal candidate demonstrates electrical/mechanical skill, attention to detail, and professionalism when collaborating with team members and customers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Inspection & Diagnosis
    • Disassemble motors and perform visual and electrical testing.
    • Identify faults (e.g., winding issues, insulation degradation, bearing wear).
  • Rewinding & Repair
    • Rewind stators and rotors; fabricate and terminate leads as needed.
    • Replace bearings, shafts, seals, and other internal components.
    • Balance rotors to meet tolerance requirements.
  • Reassembly & Testing
    • Clean, assemble, and test motors to factory specifications and safety standards.
    • Conduct megohm, surge, and polarization index tests.
  • Maintenance & Overhaul
    • Perform full overhauls and preventative maintenance on industrial machinery components.
  • Documentation & Quality Control
    • Maintain accurate repair logs, test reports, and parts lists.
    • Ensure adherence to internal quality control and compliance protocols.
  • Customer & Team Interaction
    • Communicate effectively with customers, explaining issues and solutions.
    • Work closely with peers and supervisors to coordinate workloads and ensure timely deliveries.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED; technical certification in electrical, mechanical, or related field preferred.
  • Proven hands-on experience in electric motor repair, rewinding, and diagnostics (2+ years preferred).
  • Proficiency using motor tester instruments: megohmmeters, surge testers, balancing tools, motometers, etc.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and ability to work with hand tools, hoists, and machining equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet specifications and safety standards.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment (~50 lbs or more) and stand for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for field visits as necessary.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Prior experience with variable-frequency drives (VFDs), gearboxes, or fan assemblies.
  • Weld or machining experience.
  • OSHA, NFPA 70E, or similar safety certifications.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily shop‐based repair facility.
  • Occasional on-site service calls or equipment inspections at customer facilities.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, including gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection, is mandatory.
