Role Summary

We are seeking an Experienced AC Electric Motor Winder to join our repair shop team. This position involves inspecting, stripping, rewinding, and reassembling various types of AC motors, including random-wound and form-coil motors. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of electric motor winding processes and materials.


Key Responsibilities

  • Inspection & Disassembly
    • Perform electrical and mechanical inspection of stators, rotors, and coils.
    • Record winding data and document core condition before teardown.
  • Winding Process
    • Remove old windings using safe burn-out techniques.
    • Wind new coils according to specifications using proper wire, insulation, and layout.
    • Perform random-wound and form coil winding, lacing, taping, and insertion.
  • Reassembly & Testing
    • Complete connections, varnishing, and curing of windings.
    • Assist with motor reassembly and electrical testing (surge, hipot, megohm, etc.).
  • Quality Assurance & Documentation
    • Maintain accurate job records and test results.
    • Ensure all winding jobs meet EASA and company quality standards.
  • Shop Support
    • Collaborate with technicians and machinists to complete jobs efficiently.
    • Maintain a clean and organized winding area.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience rewinding AC electric motors (fractional HP to 500+ HP).
  • Proficient with winding equipment and materials (enameled wire, insulation, slot liners, etc.).
  • Able to interpret winding data sheets and diagrams.
  • Familiarity with surge and hipot testing equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift and handle heavy motors/components (~50 lbs or more).
  • Commitment to workplace safety and precision craftsmanship.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Experience rewinding DC or specialty motors.
  • Familiarity with VFD-driven motors and insulation system upgrades.
  • Knowledge of EASA or IEEE repair standards.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Shop-based in a climate-controlled repair facility.
  • Standing, bending, and lifting required throughout the workday.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
